How to Start an Online Business for Free

Here’s the thing. There are some really bad scams and business models out there on the internet today. I wanted to write a post about how to start an online business for free. It’s possible to do in this day and age because of the internet.

It is indeed possible for you to actually start up a profitable online business you can be proud of in 2019 and beyond. But it’s going to take lots of effort. It’s not something that’s ever going to be handed to you on a silver platter, unless of course your parents are Bill and Melinda Gates or something.

Keep reading and I’ll tell you exactly what you have to do right now if you want to get up and running as an online entrepreneur.

But first, let’s get your mindset right before we begin, shall we?

How to Start an Online Business for Free Today

I’ll tell you what to expect first. I don’t want you to waste your time and effort just to fail miserably.

I want to set you up with maximum chances of success. So get ready!

Creating any type of business, whether online or offline, is usually really hard work. You’ll put in a lot of hours in the beginning to get the ball rolling. You’ll get frustrated and you’ll maybe want to throw in the towel. In the beginning you cannot expect even to get paid much if anything at all. You’ve got to accept that it’s a real online business we’re talking about and you’re going to have to work for free for a while.

However, this isn’t so bad a thing.

I want you to picture yourself starting an offline business, say a store of some kind. How much is the rent going to be and how much for equipment and stock?

And then how about the utility bills? How much is an accountant going to cost? It all adds up.

I’ve never started an offline business before, and I’m pretty sure I never want to even try. It’s too expensive and way too stressful.

Now picture another scenario.

Let’s imagine we can start helping people online to solve their problems. Now stick with me, because the business model we’re going to look at is affiliate marketing.

So What is Affiliate Marketing About?

It’s not so scary as it sounds.

Affiliate marketing is simply recommending stuff to people and they buy. When they buy something you will get a commission.

Have you ever searched online for a review of a product you’re looking to buy?

Most people do look for reviews of something if they’re going to buy from somewhere like Amazon.

Bloggers write reviews on their own websites. These reviews are called “blog posts“.

Bloggers create content for the internet make money with their blogging.

Most Affiliate Programs are Free to Join

There are millions of products you can buy at Amazon.com. But Amazon isn’t the only place you can buy something online. There are gazillions of other places as well. There are places online that only sell digital products, for example. Somewhere like JVZoo or Warrior+ or even Clickbank, to name a few.

So when you want to sell other people’s products as an affiliate you need to join what’s called an “affiliate program”.

Amazon has an affiliate program you can join and it’s free.

Now let’s say you are a photography fan and you create a website all about photography. You could recommend all kinds of camera gear on that website by writing reviews like the one in the image above.

You could also make Youtube videos and link to your website in the description below the video. People click on the link and visit your website to read your awesome camera review and if they like the camera because of what you’ve said about it, they’ll click on a special link provided to you by Amazon and buy the camera.

You can even add your affiliate link in the description below your Youtube video. It’s better to have yourself a website, however. Your website is the central “hub” of your online business. Your Youtube channel technically doesn’t belong to you and you could have it taken away at any time. A website you own is the way to go.

BOOOM, You Just Made Money Online

All you did to make money was to recommend something and people will buy.

So how do you get started with an online business like this for free today?

Well, there’s some things you need to consider first. You need a website and you need training. There’s also a few tools that’ll help you with your biz.

Here’s How to Start an Online Business for FREE Right Here and Right Now

But I have a solution that will cover all those necessities. Yes, you can start your business for free. But keep in mind that you will want to actually spend some money on your business sooner or later.

You must be prepared to invest in your business tools and in yourself in terms of training on how to do all this online stuff. I can’t go through all the training that’s required here in this post so I will just let the masters who taught me do the teaching and provide you with the tools.

Are you ready and able to work for yourself as an entrepreneur? Ready to start a business for free?

By the way, affiliate marketers are making billions of dollars a year online. Amazon makes billions every year. I know you might be wondering “can you really make money online?”. The answer to that one is “Do people buy things online?”

As a blogger you can make $10,000 a month, $20,000 a month, or much more. But you have to start from zero. We all do. Are you up for it?

Enough said.

The process to earn online with your own business is best explained in just 4 steps.

The 4 Step Process to Make Money Online

In step one we have to decide on what niche we want to focus on. This is vital. You can’t start a website and blog about random stuff from dog food to remote control nano drones. Choose a niche you love and stick to it.

In step two you have to build the site and write content. This will help you to get to step 3, which is where visitors come to your website.

And in the final step 4, some of your visitors will buy something from your site. Obviously not all visitors are going to buy something and not all visitors can. But if you’re getting 1000 visitors a day to your website and you only get 1% of them to buy, you’re making money. Depending on what you’re selling (promoting), you can potentially make a shed load of cash.

That would be super nice, wouldn’t it?

4 Step Process to make money online

And that is all it takes really. So if you’re wanting some free training and tools to help you start here’s your chance.

How to Make Money with Online Affiliate Marketing

Today we’re talking about How to Make Money with Online Affiliate Marketing and Blogging. It’s really not as difficult as some folks would have you believe. In fact, it’s perhaps one of the easiest ways for beginners to earn income online these days.

One of the best things about affiliate marketing and blogging is that you can start for such a low cost, it’s not even funny.

But one of the pains is you have to have a lot of patience before you really get rolling and making decent profits.

In a regular “9 to 5 job” you can start working on the first day and get paid a couple of weeks or a month later for the amount of hours you put in.

But with affiliate marketing, or any online business model, you’re basically going to be working for free until momentum is built up and the pennies and dollars start dropping into your bank account.

So, with that info out of the way, let’s discuss a few important details you need to know before you embark on this exciting journey as an entrepreneur. (Yes, affiliate marketers and bloggers are indeed entrepreneurs!).

What is Affiliate Marketing?

If you’ve never heard the term before, it might sound a little bit daunting. I know that I used to think it was something really complex. I wasn’t sure exactly what it was for a long time and I never bothered to look it up, so to speak.

However, I finally discovered it’s nothing more than recommending products or services to people on behalf of a company…(just like Amazon.com).

We’ve all heard of Amazon and we all know what that’s about. It’s an online market place where you can buy just about anything you want.

Here is the WikiPedia Definition of Affiliate Marketing

What is Blogging?

Blogging is the “art” of writing content and publishing it on the internet. It stands for “WEB LOG”. Simply take the letter B from the end of the word “Web” and attach it to the word “log” and you have the word BLOG. It’s basically like an online diary that’s not private.

As a sidenote, the written word is not the only type of “blog” you could have. You could do Vlogging, which is basically the video version without written words.

And then there’s also Podcasting, which is audio with no video. Basically, the purpose of a blog, vlog, or podcast is to create content that people want to consume and they’ll likely come to your website to consume it.

Niche Down When You Start a Blog

Now, when you start a blog using the right methods, you can earn money. And you earn money by using the affiliate marketing method.

You can’t just start a website and blog on it about random topics. That’s too disorganized and won’t generate much traffic as a result. (Traffic is visitors on your website reading your blog).

You have to “niche” down. This means you have to create a blog around a certain topic. This topic, typically should be something you’re passionate about. For you it might be football and for someone else it might be fishing.

There are gazillions of niches you could choose from. And in every niche there are inevitably a gazillion products you can “sell” by recommending them on your blogging website.

You just need to join an affiliate program so that you can get hold of a special “affiliate link”.

What is an Affiliate Program?

An affiliate program is something you join (often takes just a minute or two to apply) so that you can be a “partner” with a company.

Let’s keep using Amazon.com as the example to keep things simple, but keep in mind you will find thousands, if not millions of affiliate programs online these days.

Affiliate marketing is a MASSIVE industry and it’s only going to grow as more and more people spend money online.

If you navigated to Amazon and you’re looking at the home page, scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see something like this.

If you don’t have a website already in place with some content on it, there’s no point in applying for an Amazon affiliate account just yet.

Amazon will want to see content on a website that you own first. Another thing about Amazon is that if you don’t make any sales in your first 6 months as an affiliate, you will lose your affiliate account.

But don’t worry, all you do is apply to be an affiliate again and start fresh. They don’t put a “ban” on you for losing your account. I think they’re just keeping a tight ship.

Affiliate Marketing Examples

I’m a blogger and I’m an affiliate marketer. My blog is in the “make money online” niche. I teach people how to blog for profits.

There are various things I cover, such as…

  • Blogging
  • SEO
  • Keyword Research
  • WordPress
  • Themes for WordPress
  • WordPress Plugins
  • List Building
  • Email Marketing
  • Affiliate Tools & Resources
  • Recommended Training
  • Social Media Marketing

It’s my “job” to help people to do the things above.

Affiliate marketing is something I’m very interested in and that’s why I started this website you’re on now. It’s my “niche”.

I’m passionate about this niche so I’m happy to create content in this niche.

As a result of me being in the niche I’ve chosen, there’s not too much on Amazon that I’d want to sell. Perhaps some Kindle books about online marketing. But here’s the thing…

Like I mentioned before, there are thousands upon thousands of affiliate programs. It’s not limited to Amazon.

There are affiliate programs for almost any niche you can imagine.

There’s a website called Clickbank.com and you will find many niches and products there. This website is as far as I know, all digital products.

You Can Visit Clickbank's Home Page to Find Affiliate Programs and ProductsYou’ll find many niches and products at Clickbank

How Fast Can You Make Money with Affiliate Marketing?

The caveat with affiliate marketing is that it will take time and patience and a determination in your blogging to get where you want to be in terms of income.

You have to accept the fact that it’s going to be a while before the money starts piling up. There’s no set time.

It might take months before you make some money. The thing you have to do is just have faith that you’ll get more and more visitors reading your blog posts with the passage of time. In the beginning nobody knows you exist.

You must continue adding to your blog as frequently as possible.

But don’t let the fact that it will take time to earn money put you off trying this awesome business model for yourself. It is the best way to earn online for many reasons.

There are huge benefits to affiliate marketing.

The Benefits of Affiliate Marketing for the Affiliate

Let’s take a look at some of the many huge benefits of affiliate marketing.

  • You do not need to stock any products
  • Some affiliate programs pay recurring commissions
  • You don’t have to work set hours
  • Affiliate Marketing isn’t going anywhere, in fact it’s growing fast
  • You can work from home or anywhere with an internet connection
  • Once you learn the ropes, it’s good fun!
  • You can earn commissions from 5% to 100%
  • Most affiliate programs are fast and easy to join (sometimes minutes)
  • You get to build a business around your passions
  • Super low startup costs compared to traditional businesses
  • You don’t have to handle customer support queries, refunds, etc
  • The only tools you need are an internet connected laptop/desktop PC

What NOT to Do When You Start Affiliate Marketing & Blogging

So many people try to choose a niche that is too broad. This way, they end up having to compete in the marketplace with massive companies who’ve been in the industry.

If you chose a niche of just “sports” then you’d have a really hard time ranking in the search engines for anything you write. You’re competing directly with the likes of Nike, Adidas, Reebok and a plethora of other huge brands.

You have to niche down. Take a sub topic of the niche and focus on it.

Another mistake I often see is people not creating enough content and still expecting incredible results.

Person A: “Why haven’t I made any money yet?”ME: How long have you been at it?Person A: “3 weeks!”ME: How many blog posts have you got published on your website?Person A: “Two posts!”

Can you see the problem there?

Far too often, people will expect millions of dollars handed to them on a silver plate for practically zero work done.

They say affiliate marketing doesn’t work and they’re quitting.

Well if you ask me, there’s only one guaranteed way of failing, and that is to quit.

People who expect everything handed to them on a silver plate are living in cloud cuckoo land and they’re not cut out for entrepreneurship. It’s best they stick to the 9-5 job if you ask me.

Do not focus your energy on making money. Your primary focus should be on helping people.

That’s right.

You have to help people to solve problems, to fix things they have trouble with, to show them how to do something or how something works.

You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” ~ Zig Ziglar
